I’m a writer and narrative practitioner…xyz…working to bring compassion and deep listening center-stage, embracing loss, grief and serious illness as the textures of life.

My essay on Nina Simone’s love for Liberia in the 1970s, published in Guernica, was listed as a notable essay by The New York Times and Longreads. Other essays and longform journalism have been published in The Guardian, The Boston Globe, Monocle, The Independent, British Medical Journal, PEN America, The New Yorker, STAT, Harvard Public Health Magazine and many others. I’m the co-author of many Lonely Planet travel guidebooks.

I studied narrative medicine at Columbia University, in workshops led by Rita Charon, and at the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy. I facilitate creative writing, narrative medicine, and spoken word poetry sessions for patients recovering from severe illness, including in Covid-19 field hospitals with Boston Health Care for the Homeless. I have curated art exhibitions with recovered Ebola patients, and partnered with podcasters to explore artistic processes and grief, including on the podcast Out of Grief Comes Art.

  • "An absolute pleasure to have a session with her. So warm and articulate. And I felt she really saw me."

  • "Really lovely experience. She is intuitive and kind...I was feeling very sad and directionless, but she gave me some great insights. I will come back to her. Thank you!"
